The 2017 Quality Innovation Award was presented to the recipients at a ceremony held at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sweden on January 29. AP&T was one of the recipients of the award for its unique production solution for forming high-strength aluminum which was launched last year.
“The award is fantastic recognition of the degree of innovation that AP&T represents. Our technology offers the automotive industry entirely new opportunities to design lighter, more energy-efficient and safer cars,” says CTO, Technology Development Dr. Christian Koroschetz who together with CTO, Product Development Christer Bäckdahl accepted the award on behalf of AP&T.
SIQ judging committee’s justification
“By adopting a holistic and systematic approach, which combines many different competencies, a new rational technology for complex forming of high-strength aluminum has been developed. The new technology enables radical reduction of the material’s thickness and weight, which leads to lower fuel consumption and less environmental impact — at the same time that crashworthiness increases. This combination makes the innovation an important breakthrough in aluminum production technology.”
