R&D

AP&T’s research and development is primarily focused on solutions that allow our customers to produce consistently safer, lighter and more energy-efficient products that have low climate and environmental impact. This has been a successful strategy that has helped us become a respected knowledge partner to many companies all over the world, not least in the car industry.

Cooperation for the future

In addition to the continuous development we pursue on our own, we also cooperate with a worldwide network of specialists from academia and industry. Through active business intelligence and continuous dialogue with industry-leading players and by taking part in innovative projects, we help strengthen both our own and our customers' position for the future. Our various cooperation initiatives address materials, processes, machines and complete production solutions. One primary focus is ensuring we take advantage of the opportunities afforded by Industry 4.0 and develop new digital solutions that promote increased efficiency, machine availability and profitability for our customers.

Test center with full-scale production lines

At our test center in Ulricehamn we have full-scale, low-volume production lines for different forming processes, such as cold and hot forming applications, and for different materials, such as aluminum, high-strength steel and fiber composites. The center provides excellent opportunities to conduct research, try out tools and test prototypes and low volume production. It is a valuable resource for development projects and for our research on new materials and manufacturing processes. The production lines are based on the latest AP&T technology and include, for example, our unique servo hydraulic press, Multi-Layer Furnaces for steel and aluminum, high-speed linear automation, test dies and a special furnace for artificial aging of high-strength aluminum alloys.

“Our goal is to be at the forefront of industrialization when it is time for our customers to develop their business.”

Christer Bäckdahl, Chief Technology Officer, AP&T
